Hana Sebel is a Czech-born figurative painter based in France. Trained in fashion design and fine arts, her practice is rooted in a strong understanding of anatomy while increasingly questioning the stability of the human figure itself.
Her work investigates states of consciousness, vulnerability and identity through the body. Moving between expressive realism and dissolution, her figures emerge, fragment or disappear into the surrounding space, while isolated gestures and areas of heightened detail retain an intense physical presence.
Influenced by artists such as Egon Schiele, Lucian Freud and Jenny Saville, Sebel approaches portraiture less as representation than as a way of examining what it means to inhabit a body — and how much of the self remains readable when its visible boundaries begin to disappear.
